PLEASE NOTE:  Class topics below are tentative, and will be updated as the dates draw near

(*All Sat/Sun China Harbor classes are non-novice level:  comfort with basic cross-step waltz steps & partnering skills are assumed.  

If you are a beginner, please come to the free pre-dance lessons just before each evening's dance!)



--------------------------- FRIDAY EVENING, May 10th ---------------------------

At Om Culture (Seattle)

8:00-8:30pm, Pre-Dance Lesson: "A Turning Waltz Taster", with Ari & Alyssa 

This informative 1/2 hour lesson will give you all of the tools you'll need to get started mastering the fundamentals of the turning waltz basic.  A great introduction to the dance for beginners, and a wonderful review of the concepts for the more advanced dancers (who may also consider taking the class in 'role-reversal' mode to challenge themselves further).   Please get there a few minutes early as we will start promptly at 8pm as scheduled.  Stay for the "Fabulous Friday Dance" to follow from 8:30 on.

1) 10:00am - 12:15pm: MORNING WORKSHOP #1:  “Wonderful Cross-Step & The Fluid Language of Waltz”, with Ari & Alyssa

       In this two-hour session, you will learn the secrets of effortless movement and flow in your dance, and then expand your horizons in a way that that will allow you to create, play, and innovate effortlessly with any dancer at any level  (BONUS: these are concepts that can easily be applied to any style you do, not just waltz).  Level: Non-novice Beg/Int (basic waltz steps and partnering skills assumed)  


A)  10:00-11:00   Blending it up...  

Waltz is a beautiful flowing dynamic dance form that utilizes rote steps, but can also borrow moves from latin, swing, balboa, blues, or any other of your favorite dance styles and blend them into the graceful flowing movements & rhythms that we recognize as waltz.  Come learn a few ways to blend your waltz with other dance styles.  It's easy to learn and lots of fun to do!  (CLICK HERE to see an example of fusion waltz with Ari & Alyssa).

 


B)  11:15-12:15   Setting it Free - The Secret Art of Effortless Flow & Play

In this class, you'll learn how to add some free-styling techniques to your Cross-Step Waltz as we focus on moves that travel and glide.  The great thing is that these are also wonderful concepts that can be applied to virtually every other dance you do to make the movement flowing and effortless!

2) 2:00 - 4:15pm: AFTERNOON WORKSHOP #2:  More Fun & Innovative Cross-Step Waltz Combo's

       Learn some fun new steps and combinations to take your cross-step waltz to the next level. (Level: Non-novice Beg/Int. Basic waltz steps and partnering skills assumed)  


A)  2:00-3:00   "Raveling & Traveling Cross-Step"   

These are fun, flowing combinations that allow you to both rotate and travel.


B)  3:15-4:15   "Shadow's, Spins, & Rollaways" 

These are combinations that put the "Aaah" into your dance, and will add fun intricate motions to your steps.  Great for follow's styling as well!

7:00-8:00pm, Pre-Dance Lesson: "Intro to Waltz", with Dean Patton

This lesson will get you started with the basics of waltz.  Please get there a few minutes early as we will start promptly at 7:00pm as scheduled.  Stay for the fabulous "Waltz" Ball to follow!

  • LOCATION: Bothell Sons of Norway Hall, 23905 Bothell-Everett Hwy, Bothell, WA  (plentiful free parking available)
  • COST: $15
  • 8-11pm: "Waltz Ball", featuring the Dina Blade and the Valse Cafe Orchestra (Come Festive!)

3) 10:00am-12:00pm: MORNING WORKSHOP #3:  “Cross-Step Moves From Russia" (A Mother's Day Waltz Special), with mother & daughter, LilliAnn & Claire Carey

In this workshop, Lilli Ann & Claire explore a few of the more advanced moves they shared with their students in Russia. They will also weave into the 2 hour session a bit of the  life and dance culture they enjoyed from them. A solid knowledge of the cross-step waltz basic and dancing at an intermediate level is a must!

B)  11:00am-12:pm:  "From Russia With Even More Love!"

Taking it up a notch

  • 1:00-3:30pm:  "Waltz Cafe" Mother's Day Tea Dance in the Main Ballroom at the Century (Cost: $9)
  • 3:30-5:00pm:  Join us for a no-host "Happy Hour" & social at the Tin Door restaurant (Century Ballroom)

At the Latvian Community Center (Seattle)

6:30-7:30pm, Pre-Dance Lesson: "Introductory Waltz Class" 

Come and enjoy an introductory waltz class. Stay for the "Waltz eclectic" dance to follow from 7:30-9:30pm.
